How To Communicate With Colors

Colors mean so much to us subconsciously and yet they are overlooked every day. It’s something we don’t think about unless we need to and is a powerful tool we take for granted. Think of your bank, what colors are they using, Is it blue or black? What about your favorite restaurant, do their colors include red or orange? How did we know that? There’s a very good reason institutions use common color schemes to promote their product or service. Here’s how to use colors to communicate and what they mean:  

Red
Associated with strong emotions such as excitement and increased appetites. It is a common color choice for restaurants, grocery stores and entertainment venues.  

Orange
Similar to red advocating excitement as well as enthusiasm. This is a great color for fitness centers and restaurants.

Yellow
Emits excitement and happiness. Yellow can be a great choice for family venues, restaurants and theme parks.

Green
Represents good health, renewal and life. Green would be an excellent choice for juice shops, rehabilitation centers and medicinal dispensaries.  

Blue
Instills trust and calm. This is very common color palette for financial institutions, Yoga Studios and consultation businesses.  

Purple
Represents spirituality, creativity and royalty. Purple can be a used for Creative Studios, jewelry shops and community events.

Black  
Neutrality and strength, a great choice to advocate confidence and conventionality such as financial institutions, retail stores and franchises.
